🎨 Made to Order · Ships in 3–4 Weeks. The original has sold, but Debra will handcraft a similar canary collage just for you. Mango's own feathers stay with the original, so yours will be made with new materials. It will be similar in spirit and style but beautifully unique, and no two are exactly alike.
Mango's Last Stand began with a neighbor's request and a small envelope of canary feathers. When her beloved canary Mango passed away, she asked Debra to create something to honor him. Debra responded with this luminous mixed-media collage — two canaries built entirely from Mango's own feathers, perched in a peaceful garden paradise. It is at once a portrait, a memorial, and an imagining of wherever good birds go.
The lavender sky is layered from tissue, rice, and mulberry papers, giving it a soft, watercolor-like depth. Paper and fabric branches arc across the composition, with each feathered Mango perched mid-song. A die-cut bird silhouette adds a third presence drifting in the background sky. Below, blue mulberry-paper water, pink shoreline, and rolling green land build a quiet landscape, while the foreground blooms with found-object flowers — white daisies, pink dahlias, purple orchids, and delicate baby's breath — alongside paper butterflies and trailing vines.
Ready to hang; black shadow-box frame included

This handcrafted collage by Sarasota artist Debra Rich is a portrait of Jazz, built from upcycled materials in layered, textured detail. Jazz was a music dog, so sheet music — cut up and painted — forms the body of the portrait; her nose is a rock, her collar is one of Jazz’s actual old collars, and her name tag was made at a pet store. The background is a richly textured black paper.
Handcrafted from painted sheet music, found objects, and Jazz’s own collar
