Coastal Harmony was inspired by Turtle Beach in Sarasota. Debra Rich built the whole scene from found objects, with sand, water, and sky each made from different materials.
The sand is real sand mixed with paint. Along the bottom, seagulls stand on a dock at the left, turtles make their way toward the water at the center, and a collection of real seashells fills the right corner.
The water is painted, with waves made from beads and chains. A mermaid and a diver, both made from magnets, share it with a starfish and clams made from charms, and small blue whales made from fused glass. Tropical fish swim along the right edge. Above them, the painted sky has clouds made of stones and a small sun charm.
