This original mixed-media mosaic assemblage by Sarasota artist Debra Rich depicts a woman resting with a cat made entirely of pearls and beads at her side, set in a warm kitchen scene — a shelf with wine and grapes, a sunflower adorned spoon, in a teacup, a pea pod, a small bird perched near a curtain, and a potted flower by the window.
The backsplash behind the woman I created out of glass tiles, a cut plate and a child’s plate. In the corner I made a curtain valence with beads and broken plates I had fun breaking. The woman is sitting on a bench made out of stained glass and tile. There is an Afghan next to the cat I fashioned out of more broken plates. A lot of broken dishes went into this creation! I outlined the woman and the cat in metal chain to make them pop.
